2019 New Year’s Eve Rifle Match Results

On December 31, 2019, seven (7) stalwart competitors attended Midland’s Annual New Year’s Eve Rifle Match.  We enjoyed snow and cold temperatures, but were protected by Midland’s tent.  Of our entries we had three (3) F-Open shooters, two (2) F-TR shooters, and two (2) Target Rifle (sling) shooters.

The winning F-Open shooter was Tony Dekelaita with a 391-9X.  Unfortunately, due to a clerical error the bottle of Champagne was given to the second place shooter, Don Hicks, who had a 389-12X.  Tony we apologize.  We’ll fix it in March when we start the winter league.

The winning F-TR shooter was Charles Nelson with a 366-6X, and the winning Target Rifle shooter was Ray Gross with a 397-19X.

2019 New Year’s Eve Rifle Match

Once again we will test Mother Nature, and plan a New Year’s Eve Rifle Match.

This will be a 2×600, and be fired from our heated tents on the 600 yard line.  We will not cancel due to temperature (we ran at -5 F one year).  However, extreme driving conditions could cause a cancelation.

If you haven’t done it before, you owe it to yourself to come out an try it.  It is an experience!

2019 Annual Foul Weather Rifle Match

On a cold day on the 30th of November 2019, four (4) stalwart souls came to the Midland County Sportsman’s Club and fired the “Annual Foul Weather Rifle Match”.

With three categories and four shooters, we end up with three winners, and one second.  The winners were:  Mike Ruhlman, F-Open 391-15X; Second Place F-Open was Tony Dekelaita with a 389-9X; Doug Boyer, F-TR with a 394-17X (with a 200-9X on his first string – the only clean of the day), and Ray Gross, Sling Prone with a 390-17X.

2019 Annual Foul Weather Rifle Match

With the possible exception of a New Year’s Eve Match, this is the end of the outdoor matches for 2019.  We will start up with the Winter Mid-Range after the 1st of March.

However, for you 22 shooters, we fire F-Class and sling prone all winter with the Snow Country English Match Series.  Program is here:  2019-2020 Snow Country English Match Series

2019-20 Snow Country Match 1 and 2

On November 23, 2019 a Snow Country match was conducted at the Monroe Gun Club.  Eleven (11) shooters attended, and twelve (12) matches were shot.  So we now have scores for matches 1 and 2.

Clearly F-Class shooters are the majority so far this year.  Of the eleven, only three were sling shooters.

You may notice what may appear to be an anomaly in the results.  Sling Shooters can compete with irons, scope, or fire scores for each.  Both Dan Altman and Leo Cebula have done that so far this year.

2019-20 Snow Country Match 2

There are several matches being conducted.  In fact there are five coming up in December.  Still a lot of time to start and complete the series!

2019-20 Snow Country Match 1 Results

On November 9, 2019 we opened the 2019-20 Snow Country English Match Series at the Howell Gun Club.  Seven (7) shooters participated, almost filling the range.

Of the seven (7), six (6) were competing F-Class, and one (1), lonely shooter fired Sling.

You will note a little difference with the F-Class scoring (at least for a week or two to see how the F-Classers like it).  We scored X’s on the USAS50 Target, but we treated them as “11’s”.  Effectively, the F-Classers were shooting for a total of 660.  It is our hope that this will allow a more equitable distribution of F-Class scores.  Would be happy to hear your opinions.

2019 Halloween BSA Charity Match Results

On Saturday, November 2, 2019, we held our annual Halloween BSA Charity Match on the Midland County Sportsman’s Club. The day looked worse than it was. On the drive up there was spotty rain.  When we arrived at the club there was spotty rain.  However, it cleared off and other than being a bit cool (I define a “bit cool” as I didn’t feel like I needed gloves) it was a decent day to shoot.

We had a disappointing eleven (11) shooters, so we were finished by noon.  F-Open was won by Bret Solomon with a 597-37X.  F-TR was won by John Pierce with a 593-30X, besting Doug Boyer by 2X.  Target rifle was won by Mike Quillinan with a 597-34X.
